Join 1 Squadron!
Here you’ll find lots of useful information about joining 1 Squadron. If you already have the information, just click the "Joining Form" link on the left.
What is the criteria to join ATC?
New recruits must:
– Be aged between 13 and 15 years
– Accepted younger if attending secondary school
– Abide by NZCF Code of Behaviour and Unit Standing Orders
And YES - we take both boys and girls!
When do we meet?
We meet every Thursday night, during term time, from 6:45pm until 9:30pm. We also have some activities on the weekends, but lots of notice is given for these. Cadets usually find it quite easy to manage sporting commitments around weekend activities.
After you have been a cadet for a while, you may also attend courses during the holidays.
Do I get to wear a uniform?
Yes, you wear a modified Air Force uniform, with rank slides distinguishing you as a cadet. Uniform is to be worn every week to ATC parade nights, and at other formal occasions such as ANZAC Day parades and our Formal Dinner.
Our uniform is:
– Issued on a bonded loan basis – to be returned when you leave ATC
– To be worn as per RNZAF standards
– Worn only on ATC activities
– You need to provide your own shoes and socks
We wear standard clothing to most weekend activities such as camps and flying.
You can find out more about our uniform by visiting the "Information For Cadets" link on the left hand side then chosing “Wearing the ATC Uniform”.
What does ATC cost?
Your parents can find out what costs are involved by visiting the “Information for Parents” link on the left hand side of the page. Most of our activities are subsidised by our ATCANZ Support Committee.
I want to join! Now what?
Of course you want to join! Fill out the online form by clicking "Joining Form" on the left or the link below. We will give you a call and send you some information. We usually have a recruiting intake at the beginning of each year.
