National Aviation – Power Flying
On this course you will spend a week to ten days down at RNZAF Base Blenheim having flying training with other ATC cadets. Instructors come from round the country and train you in all aspects of flying a small plane – from theory to hands on flying. You may even receive enough instruction that you are able to fly solo at the end of the course! Travel to and from the course, and accommodation at the Base, is free. There are fees associated with your flying training, but the cost is heavily subsidised and much cheaper than you’d be able get at an aero club.
National Aviation – Navigation
This course is run at the same time and place as the Power Flying Course. Cadets learn about the theory of flight navigation, and plan and execute cross-country flights. Travel to and from the course, and accommodation at the Base, is free. There are fees associated with the actual flying that you will do on the course, but these are again subsidised.
National Gliding Course
Cadets come together to learn about the theory of gliding, and spend time putting this into practice. Again, with enough instruction, you may be able to go solo on this course! Travel to and from the course, and accommodation, is free. There are fees involved with the flying, though because gliding doesn’t involve an engine, it is often a very cheap course to attend!
